It's plastic casing - very light.
Not sure where from, likely china.
The label on it is just a piece of printed paper.
Is $11 consider a good price ?
$11 for eballast. where to buy?
It is small and I don't mind paying such a price if space is a constraint in my light set. And it goes to 55W too! Hope it is reliable too.Originally Posted by dc88
Some years back, I use to get 2x36W Elbiru eBallast from NA around $20. Not sure if the price has changed since then. Those are still working great more than 3 years later.

Be careful with poor quality e ballast, especially those with external plastic casing/cover; they may be fire and electrical hazards.
Normally, when the power electronic components become defective, they end up as short circuit resulting in very high currents and becomes extremely hot. If the e ballast incorporates appropriately rated fuse(s), the fuse(s) "blows", then the situation is not too bad. Poorly designed, poor quality e ballast may not be incorporate any fuse, this may lead to the building up of heat, melting of plastic parts and possibly causing a fire.
Please note that a few components of a normally operating e ballast will be hot during normal use; the heat needs to be dissipated to the room air; this is commonly done by attaching the hot components to a heat sink (large surface area metal plate/part). At 55W, if the e ballast is still very light, then I suggest that you exercise extremely caution.
Hi DC88, Since this is DIY, just include a fuse at the main to make it safer.
BTW, do you use 1 ballast for 2 tube?
Each tube 1 ballast. Not really for the price. More for the compact size. For now I am using 36W PL each.
The shop name and address :
SAW DIY Shop

Also saw Philips PL 36W at $11 and some China made 55W PL at also $11.
(Funny many items there are $11)
if it's 1 tube to a ballast, then i think that ballast should be fine for its size.
Hi , I agree with gks of poor quality e-ballast...for me i will get this tried n trusted Elbiru or Ariba e-ballast...it gave me piece of mind....just my 2cents...Originally Posted by gks
