if you are looking for some kind of great base fert that will not make a big mess when you rescape then i guess you should be better off without using base fert at all.

just use ada soil only, no base fert

cause any commercial base fert out there as far as i know, including ada powersand, will all make some kind of mess or another when you do any rescape, pulling out of plants etc

Even ADA substrate will create 'mess' when you uproot or planting your plants. Turning the water into milky and even muddy if you disturb the substrate too much.

If you are the type that always does rescapes frequently, you are better off using lapis and regular base ferts. Aquasoil will not tolerate itchy fingers very well and will crumble fast with more meddling.

You can do rescape with ADA soil. But you got to do it slowly. The uprooting cannot be violent. Filter keep it on, and suck out the crumbled soil after removing sections of the scape.

After finished removing of plants, spread a layer of new soil onto of the old to keep the crumbled ones in. Do the rescape, finish planting, add another thin layer of soil.

Done. But don't do it too often...

for rescaping with ADA, you can try draining the water to about 1/2 or less, before doing your work. Thereafter, add and siphon water at the same time until the water is clear.

If you want base fert, and some budget, try the following (layer from bottom to top):

    Clear Super
    Tourmaline BC
    PenacW
    PenacP
    Bacter100
    Power Sand Special
    AquaSoil
    AquaSoil Powder

What's the breakdown rate of the power version? And what's the effect of it in the overall scape?

actually why the worry about breaking down, do you use your lapis sand for 10years or dont rescape/overhaul for 5 years? Quite unlikely.

As long as you dont expose the soil to too long of dryness during setup, they will not crumble too fast. I think they can be good for 1-2 yrs? if you rescape often, it will definitely crumble faster, wear and tear.

Can also avoid pushing big items like root monster that will damage the granule.

During rescape, you can also add a pack of new soil on top of the old one, since the soil will be more compact over time. You can try to remove a top layer and replace it with new soil too.

Sorry to OT, but since base fert may create too much mess, and ADA aquasoil can act on its own, would using ADA aquasoil as fert layer and top the surface up with normal gravel works?

That's not advisable, since it will compact the ADA Aquasoil.

ADA Amazonia is the most fertile of all the 3 soil, but that doesnt mean it is fertile enough to become base fertilizer. If you are using Amazonia, be sure to plant heavily and do your frequent water change.

If you look at the latest ADA catalog, you will find recommendation for power sand type to use. For tanks of 60cm below, i think you can go for M size power sand.
