I just bought some fissiden 1 week plus ago, tied them on a driftwood in my 1ft cube tank. It's a 20W pl light setup with no CO2 but running on a chiller set at 25C.
So far it's doing well and growing a little, so I guess temperature might play a part.![]()
A noob & poor aquarist
oh ic. do u turn yr chiler on for 24hrs? or do u have certain timing for the chiller to run. cause im running my chiller together with the lights. once the lights cut off my chiler goes off too.. plus hw many bps is yr co2? cheers.. i think if u tie fissidens on dw its easier to grow.. btw have a pic of yr fissidens?
If your fissidens has turned brown and does not seem to want to recover here is what i did:
I have a small tank outside for culturing Daphnia and Mosquito larvae, it gets full sun for about 2 hours everyday. I dumped some of my dying Fissidens into this tank and low and behold I have a good green tuft of it now, contrary to poular belief this plant is doing very well in the hot outside tank. !!!
Try it for yourself.
oh cool. i would try it if it still doesnt recover! anyway there r many types of fissidens. what kind is yrs? maybe some fissidens can stand hot weather some just cant. lol! thanks anyway!
I have Thai and US Fissidens. I'll take a picture so you can see the difference a few weeks outside made to the plant.
TallyHo![]()
sure. thanks! anyway do u have any tips in growin fissidens? tie it to dw or iron mesh better? do they need high light or co2? etc..
I am not an authority on Fissidens, I only got my first sample a few months back. It's taken me a while to get it to grow again as it did not ship well. So far I can say that it likes moderate light and co2, but I have'nt tried it yet in a low light no co2 setup so i can't say how it does in these conditions.
He's in South Africa la... Don't know about the situation re mosquito-transmitted diseases there, but not every place is like Singapore, where every larva is seen as a timebomb.
Where I am there is no chance of getting Mosquito carrying diseases like Malaria, but if I headed up north towards the Kruger National Park (about 400km's) I would have to take some Malaria and Yellow fever Pills. But here in Johannesburg it's all good, the mosquito larvae are great to feed to my Killies. And of course it costs me nothing, so i can't say no to free fish food![]()
