    Hi guys,

would like to ask which eheim canister would be best for a 2ft planted tank?
*there'll be apisto fries in it*

    Thanks!

I really love the Classic line from Eheim. I'd recommend the 2211, or the 2213. They would both be suitable for a standard 2ft, if you're not planning on running anything inline. If you are, say a reactor or chiller, I'd say to go for the 2215.

P.S. This is what part of the alphabet would look like if Q and R were eliminated.

I think a sponge filter and internal power filter is still the best if you want to set up an apisto breeding tank. My reasons are:
    a) Micro-organisms growing on sponge filter can be food for apisto fries.
    b) Flow of internal filter is weaker than canister filter, so fries and mummy fish won't be struggling to swim against current. You will have more chance of seeing the happy family scene.
What apistogramma species are you trying to breed?

Just out of curiosity: What do you call the HMF (Hamburg Mat Filter) concept which is quite popular here in Germany?

for a 2ft planted tank with fries, i opt for eheim 2213 or 2215. both works pretty well for me. the inlet pipe best covered with a sponge to prevent fries from sucking into the canister. all the best in breeding apistos!!!

Ideal flow rate is about 3-5 times of ur tank volume. (water volume)

It think some of the folks at www.killies.com uses it. Most of us here just rely on cannister, overhead/hang on or overflow filtration.

    Eman,

If you bioload is low, just a pair with the fries and perhaps a few dither fishes, then I would agree than a good sponge filter is more than sufficent.

For my own Nannancara anomala setup in a 2 ft tank, I'm using an Eheim Pro II 2026. No problems for the longest time.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

Thanks benny, I'm now deciding between using a pair of sponge filter or stick with the eden filter for long term usage....

In the tank will contain a pair with fries plus only a few microrasboras....that will be all, do not wish to add anymore for the survival of the fries

I'm going to use a 2213 for my 2ft tank soon... Just bought it... Will replace the Eden501 which I feel is not doing much in terms of water flow...

Did you buy the taps for your 2213? Else cleaning of the filter will be a PITA... Initial creation of the siphon will take awhile...

Yup! Got the taps. One thing I noticed is that although these filters come at a cheaper price, you will have to get some assessories to make your life better...

But that is probably the only accessory that you need to buy...

You need not buy Eheim's filter medias and go for cheaper alternatives which probably will work in the same way...
