Hey guys, I just got a pair of Apistogramma agassizii from Biotope.

Checkout the pics of the female:

    More in my gallery.

Is this a female A.agassizii? The tail looks like a male to me.

You might have gotten 2 males instead. The female's caudal fin should be rounder and not lanceolate. The anal fin looks too long to be a female too. Could have been a sneaker male when you bought the pair.

Sucks...the boss catch for me and I didn't check. Should have done it myself.

Wonder if I can change for a female.

Well, thats my opinion. I might be wrong. Lets see what the others say.

Sometimes its difficult to see through a sneaker male. They can look and act like a female. I have came across them many times. Am sure Thio will help you out once its comfirmed a male.

    Yup, hoping for more comments.

Now I am doubting the gender of my suppose 'female' of the A.Bitaneniata pair I got too.

The anal fin just seems to long and pointed.

Any other features like markings I can look out for, in neutral mood, to confirm it's a female?

All A.bitaeniata and A.agassizii females has black markings on the ventral fins.

Actually, you can just bring the fish down to make a one-to-one exchange if it is truely a mistaken identity on the part of the staff.
