I have seen tanks with much more fishes (including mine, yes, guilty as charged). So I would say, although bioload is on the higher side, should be okay as long as it is heavily planted and filter is mature.

Think the bioload looks fine for a 3ft planted...

in actual theory, it's overcrowded............. in singaporean context, can't really care that much as many do not have the luxury of living in big homes...................

i have close to 80++ fishes in a 1-ft cube.........................

your filtration seems strong enough................ fishes are small, not an issue................ a seasoned fishkeeper will be able turn any aquatic disasters or misfortunes around.........................

    cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you opening a fish shop at home? 80+ fishes in 1 ft cube is insane.

Are some of you people collecting fish to satisfy a purely acquisitive spirit or really wanting to enjoy the animals at their best and healthiest?

1cm of fish per litre is the rule of thumb. I keep 6 gold tetras, 2 otos and a small group of cherries in my 1 1/2 footer and I think that is overcrowded. I have one 2 feet tank flooded with so much tonina, I cannot see my fishes and I still get nitrate poisoning due to overfeeding once, that was when I got to see my fishes, afloat.

LFS tanks have high turnover of lifestock and their proprietors (at least the responsible ones) change the water at least daily. You can't compare them to home tanks. I am sorry to hear you seem to treat your pets so lightly.

animal instinct bro............... the lure of an extremely beautiful fish(at a cheap price, maybe), a very rare water plant............. "deep pocket".................. factors that can easily bowl one over...................

no offence, just engaging in a very constructive discussion in a "public forum"...........

a gentle question: wat kind of an impression will it give a person about the condition/status of a tank after reading this???

"the tank's occupants are always prancing about "fearlessly" at the tank's front whenever you are standing in front of the tank(even when your hand is inside cleaning the glass walls), always chomping down foods hungrily, growing bigger by the day, exhibits brilliant colours, swimming actively, zero deaths since day 1, crystal clear water..................

a veteran's tank? a newbie's tank? thats the scene i see in my 1-footer everyday............

wat should a man, living in a 3-room HDB flat do, if he already has 4 or 5 kids, and the wife had just given birth to quadruplets???????????

chances are the kids get the best and will grow up healthily...............

    cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

don't we all change water frequently??????????? or at least i do

and speaking of home tanks, they get better treatment than LFS's.................... erm, right?????????????????

in my other tank, i have "lightly" kept 16 ORDINARY oranda goldfishes which have been with me for at least 10years(some even 12years, you should be able to guess their size now), in a 2.5 x 2.5 x 2.5 tank............. gave 9pcs to a friend who kept them in a 7-footer together with his ranchus and they all died one by one over a span of 2-weeks...................... how do we diagnose this?????????????? in an era where variety of fishes has boomed so much as compared to the early 80s, who will fancy keeping cheap orandas($1.50 was the price i bought back then) for such a long period of time and shower TLC on them(not to mention, weekly water change for 12 years), when the urge/thrill of keeping good exotic faunas/floras are ever so evident and strong......???????

    i did.....................

    lightly? maybe.....................

    cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, your fish may have it good and I'd be happy to take you at your word. But to recommend or being blase about overcrowding tanks, whether for lack of space or 'animal instincts', to the hobby at large is still questionable at the very least.
