The 'gahmen' may be willing to listen, but they will still go they own way.
See how many nature reserve have been converted into Golf Course?
Now they going to disturb Pulau Ubin for "rock".
For those of you who love this island and its heritage, both natural and historical, here's a chance to tell the 'gahmen' what you feel and what makes Singapore a place you cherish. Let them know that there is a small but growing segment who would like to see more protection for wildlife habitats and concern for the environment, and share your personal views at this Survey. Deadline: 15 May 2007!

I have a gazillion things to 'comprain' but as a typical law bidding serf... singaporean, I fear of strangers knocking at my door.
I can understand why many people are cynical, but giving the authorities a frank and unabashed signal that a good number of ordinary people care about Singapore's natural heritage at the very least shows them that this concern exists, and even if they decide to 'develop' a place, it's not for lack of dissenting voices.
I am not sure though why we should watch what we say in these feedback exercises. Is telling the govt that you would like to have more natural places preserved and better environmental policies something dangerous?
but do the government ever listen ? doubt so.
my friend always tell me this, i cant help but agreed.
Singapore is a MING ZU country.
They are the ZU, we are the MING.
So we listen to whatever they do.
So much for democracy...
I can't help but wonder why you prefer to give up your right of expression for suspicion and a hopeless cynicism. With this you have already ceded to whatever powers that be and continued the cycle where it appears that people here don't care, don't want to care, don't have anything to say and don't mind whatever is shoved onto them.
Precisely. If you guys don't think it's going to make a difference, then it probably will not.
If there are no concerns at all, then they don't even need to think to 'develop' a place. Regardless of the outcome, it is a voice that is given to you, so make good use of it.
Whatever you do may seem insignificant, but it is most important that you do it. - Mahatma Gandhi
If "they" have been taking notes seriously, I am sure there are alot of info on what and how we think already... no point keep asking for feedback...

以敬还敬 再敬君也
以辱还敬 再敬愚也
They know no matter what, they are going to go ahead.
What the point for them to ask for feedback?
I think just to let people know they have ask for feedback.
Taking care of talented people, so make more golf course.
No room for nature!

The way I see it, if you are not happy but keep quiet about it, it is easier for same thing to happen again. But if you make noise about it, this time, you may still not get your own way, but it will make it more difficult for whoever it is the next time.

As a fellow s'porean i can understand the frustrations - when govt ask for feedback and when we give, they just go ahead with whatever they have in mind as if they are asking for feedback just for show. IMHO if you've an opinion about an issue just shoot/voice out and not fear about "reprecussions" provided the crititism is constructive and most importantly NOT defamatory. I think the "reprecussion" thing is abit over blown.

Admiring my Fishes calm the Beast within me
Okay, I 've submitted the survey. Just to share with you guys, i've always been a optimist and a dreamer. I know whatever small green steps I take each day will not affect or change the way things are but I'll still do it just hoping that the steps will contribute to the day when someone or something can really do something about the state of things.
You'll never know that bird or fish you save or let go the other day may well be the last few remaining mating animal of that species.
I will walk down that path knowing that I have fought a good fight and not regretting things that I could've done......have faith, my brethrens.
Something about the water & the fishes that calms me down.
In life, it's always good to be optimistic - to believe that things do sometimes change for the better and that we can play a part to make our country a better place for all of us. However, I can also understand why many are pessimistic - they have lost faith in the system. They don't believe that their opinions will be taken into consideration at all. Some, like me for instance, believe that taking part in the survey itself would be misinterpreted by the government as a sign that we all support them strongly. Therefore I decline. Thanks but no thanks.
I have lived here for 53 years of my life. I was born and raised here. I'm as Singaporean as they come. So I tell them this - if you have to ask, you will never understand.

Well, I have submitted a piece of my mind...
They have already lost me so...haha..besides what i suggested will take about 10-20 years to change (if they even listened) so i'm not waiting around to find out.
Hmm me too Ranmasatome....generally this the way our gahmen works.... i think all this feedbacks thingy is yet another good example of "naming the budget airport" or "renaming marina square" contest.....End RESULT.....Still Budget Airport and Marina Square!!!Waste of $$$ and Time...!
Aquascaping = Physics + Chemistry + Art.
the ironic thing about s'poreans:
We have lots to complain. But when it comes to elections, we still vote for the PAP. not that the PAP is not doing it's job or anything. just abit... uptight most of the time.
All this feedback, discussions, forum with ministers... i reckon they will be effective. If you feel they are not doing good enough, vote against them at the next GE.
If you feel they are 'killing' the environment.. (which i kinda agree on certain circumstances) then join GreenPeace. Be a hardline enviromentalist. The type that hug whales before they get trawled up those jap fishing boats. hahah![]()
