Hi, I have the attached algae attached to the leave of Crinum Calamistratum (only this leave in the entire tank). Not too sure if it's BBA as it's green in color. The rest of the plants in this tank is algae free.

couldn't tell... and don't know a whole lot on algae myself anyway. have you checked the algae identifier posts? Maybe you could tell between the different kinds by comparing them to the pics/info. May I ask- are you just curious as to what kind it is? because if it is only in that small amount, I'm jealous!

Benjamin, its rather difficult to locate the algae in your picture. Are you able to take closer and sharper picture?
Excel should kill BBA, so maybe other algae. I do not know if other algae also effected by excel

Hi Ben,
BBA tends to accumulate first by the sides of the leaves, more to the tips/edges. Colour is usually darkish. Not much to worry if it sits only to the crinum.
Excel is supposedly surpress algae growth, as proved by many. Some extra dose may bring out the algaecidal property but be careful not to push it too hard that some plants melt. So how about some localised squrit via syringe while turning the lights and pump off for 15 minutes and let it work its magic locally.

As for the small piece of algae on my low tech tank, I have removed it by hand. Came off easily.

that does look like BBA in green colour. i got a mixture of both green and black 1s in my office tank whenever i'm on leave cause my friends normally only turn on lights but did not turn on co2. so i believe with co2 deficiency that should be BBA.

That's cool. So BBA can appears as black, red & green color. Anyone else came across other colors? I love it when it's red
The strange thing is that BBA only grows on one leave(C.Calamistratum, so far) & it is always at the end near to the surface of the water. No BBA on Crypts, Anubias & ferns. BTW, this is a low tech tank with daily Excel dosing.

It is an algae belonging to the family of red algae. Usually appears as hairy black color algae, thus the name black brush/beard algae.

With no outbreak, there is not much to worry about.
Esp when plants inside your tank is doing good enough now.
Mine dissapear by itself as my tank mature in just less than 1 month.
If it persist, get some direct excel squirt to the algae spots.
hmm, never known Sechem excel takes care of algae, its just a CO2 , liquid form..
