I have asked this question before, but no one seems to have tried. I also would like to know from the GEX experts if tonina can be propogated in the GEX soil.

Here's a picture of the explosive growth i had using ADA amazonia. Something i never witness when i was using Lapis with base fert.

yup this was the same query i had and still having...

Anyway lapis with base fert aint really good enough compared to clay-based substrate with base fert, hell of a difference having tried both types of substrate.

so anyone grew tonina in GEX ?

i just freed up some space in my tank and am going to do a minor rescape. if i can find some cheap tonina over the new year long weekend i'll give it a shot. i don't foresee problems though

one thing's for sure though, unlike with some other substrate, i won't have to endure 2 weeks of yellow/clouded water after doing the rescape (i certainly didn't after pulling out all my didiplis and some blyxa haha)

Thanks yixiang, hope to hear good news from you. Thinking of topping up my 3footer with GEX. But an unsure of its plant growth properties and didn't want to have a soil that would limit my choice of plants.

Tonina is very cheap these days. $4 to $6 bucks a pot depending on the variant. Can be purchased from Colourful Aquarium.

hi guys, i had already made my move!

i bought 3 packs of ADA Amazonian and 2 packs of JBL Base fert!
Wanted to get Gex but left only a bag of 10Kg... so settled for ADA instead, but heng, i kinda regular there, and they gave me a damn good price!

while rescaping i realised my amazon sword, rotala rotunfolia and ET all dying... lol... hopefully there's some magic! *prays*

will use GEX for my next project and see how it goes!

Anyway, illumnae, try the toninas and let me know k ? TY!
