    Hi all

    Happy New Year!!

Time flies and I've decided to create another small tank. Right now I'm doing some sketches in my notebook, you can see them here: http://v-31.deviantart.com/gallery/#Aquadesign
Not all are suitable for small tanks but they can be customized

Yesterday I played with stones i've collected last summer and this is result http://V-31.deviantart.com/art/Nanotank-scape-73624670
Second stone from the left should be covered by some plant (HC) or moss. This layout counts on thin layer of fine white sand on ground.

What do you think about that?

    Thanks for all replies.
    Regards

    V31/CZ:Europe

Yep. All I need is lowtech cuz I dun have enough time because of graduation.
So equipment is restricted to light and filtration (EDEN501)..

I was inspired by mini gardens that Takashi Amano has in his gallery.

So how do u like rocks position
(sorry for background, i did it on my work desk )

    Try this.
Instead of using the gravel you are going to be putting in your tank, get any sand or cheap gravel, and mold the substrate and then do the rock formation.

Get a better feel. Because at the end of the day, the substrate will play a part in the entire formation. And also the plants covering and things like that.

For now, I personally will put the middle piece of rock behind the main rock to create the "depth". So the support of the main rock will be by the subtrate or a hidden piece of rock. What do you think?

so you mean to put sand into tank then rocks, right? I'd like to hide bottom of rocks into the sand to evoke the most natural effect. i'm quite affraid of sand browning. Any tip how to get rid of browning?

i'll try to move that rock you mentioned. good tip

    Wink Rockscape for local contest

    Hi all,
I'm back with another rockscape. I got know about local contest 2 days ago so I started to design my contest tank.

I'll use eleocharis species and glossostigma so the plants won't overgrow small rocks.. moreover, exhibition where the contest takes place will be opened just for 10days, so there's almost no posibility off massive plant's growth..

anyway here's my rockscape.. comments welcomed thx

for me, I LOVE IT hahaha. will be keen to see what you do with it.

btw yr eleocharis species refer to what type? got picture, sorry I not too sure about the technical name, however it will be nice if your tank is a all planted with hairgrass?

And can share abit your setup, tank size, the soil you use, lighting, fert regime?

Well here is setup description according to organizer's rules:
    Tank dimension 50x30x35 (w, d, h).
Light is still unknown (he talked about 3800K tubes ).
    Filtration is also unknown.
Substrate is volcano sand from Japan called Fujizuna.
There will be no fert during the showcase.

But i'm going to setup it at home then. With ADA tubes, ADA substrate if I have money ^^, CO2, EDEN501 filtration and also some fish (I really like Hyphessobrycon haraldschultzi and invertebrates )

i seem to have gotten these same stones from midori and thio, its granite but has streaks of white "marble" on them , like live rocks. Gratz on getting really good ones, i'm been searching for my main stone with no luck for almost 2 months now.

    Help with plants please

I did some magic with Adobe Photoshop and here is the result.. mixed carpet with glossostigma and eleocharis. I have single glossostigma and eleocharis carpet too but they don't look interesting.. i'm quite helpless and have to resolve it because of plant order which must be done till the end of January

    any recommendation?

Glosso actually does grow abit of height when they creep, thus may not give you a nice carpet...
There nothing you cant do, is whether you want to do it or not.

Wow! V31, your photoshop layout is really nice.

I believe eleocharis and glosso will overun each others' turf in no time unless this is intended. Just a suggestion:- See whether you could get enough small rocks to lay across the length of the tank to separate them.

Eager to see your master piece.

Thanks. Small rocks to divide glosso and eleocharis space are not problem, i have enough. Thanks for the hint.

And how about the overall look. I admire ADA style (as many of you ) and I need free space with clearly defined rockscape and schooling fish.. is okay? Or would you move rocks somehow or use different plants.. tell me

personally i think i would prefer it if the main rock is pointing inwards
the current layout leaves imo too big an empty space in the middle
your plant choices are all low growing and probably the schooling fishes will occupy that space, , but personally i still think its a tad too empty

    whats' your take on this?
