Pearl arowana in planted tank

Hi guys... I'm thinking of adding 1 small (~5") pearl arowana into my new planted 3' tank, is it possible?

Are you aware they get to 12+ inches long?

In the short term its an ok tank, but soon you will need to get amuch larger tank to keep such a fish. There growth rate can be pretty darn fast too! Certainly catches alot of newcomers to the hobby by surprise.

Unless you plan on keeping him for the long run and plan on getting a much bigger tank for him in adulthood i wouldnt suggest getting one. Also they arnt usually kept in planted tank, they prefere tree roots with open space for swimming. Low dwelling plants aught to be kept if you plan on keeping one. A low dwelling fish that will be able to eat the food it leaves is suggestible, seeing as these fish will leave ANY and ALL food that falls below the middle of the tank being as though they feed on the surface to mid quarter of the tank.

Highly not advisible. It will damage your landscaping.

U need minimum a 4ft for this monster.

It can easily grow beyond 1ft.......

A fish of that size i'd have easily a 5-6ft tank if you want to house it with simming space. Its like a human in a 8-9ft room. Doable, but not exactly comforting is it? Imagine living in a room that size all your life, knowing no other space but that...would be cruel.

The less fish in a bigger tank is always the better solution, especially when dealing with fish of that size.

I have actualy seen people and LFS housing their arrowanas in planted tanks and the effect is stunning . But the setback is like what many brothers here point out is that you need a big tank of at least 5 feet with 2 feet depth. other than the huge tank, you will also need really good filtration system. Pet Safari(under the management of Sam Yick) many years ago use to house their arrowanas in planted tanks.

2 feet depth is not enough, a minimum of 2.5 feet depth is required for an adult arowana. Furthermore, the plants especially the background ones cannot be too tall, otherwise it will restrict the fish movement.
