If you are looking for exotic fishes, not many shops here.
However there is a whole row of shops at Jln Makaliway Raya off Pluit selling equipment and very common fish.
Another place is Pasar Ikan Hias in Jln Sumenep. This is quite near to Plaza Indonesia.
If you are looking for Sulawesi shrimps, you need to pre order. The shop which i know is in Kelapa Gading.
It is best you have a driver, if you take a taxi, they will bring you for a "City tour."

and Jalan Kartini (this one is normal fish market) as mentioned earlier, nothing really special is there...
p.s. its jalan Makaliwe (refering to post by joydiv)

Hi Choy,
I've been to those three places as well, I must say the selection is as they say. The marine fishes are pretty nice to look at at Jl Semenup but I'm not into that. Lookout for rare crypts that sell for a 3000Rp a pot. That's less than 50¢. haha. My favourite spot among all. 30X30cm brazilian micro sword[Lilaeopsis braziliensis] carpets for 10,000Rp[1.50]. You get the idea.
It's a pity my friend moved to China, he had a secret shop that had the rarest Crypts, Echinodrus etc. sigh.
If you're at EX mall connected to Plaza Indonesia, there a little shop that has some planted tanks worth checking out. Not sure if it's still there though.
There's a long stretch along Barito that has some oddballs from time to time but it's mostly very common locally bred fishes.
I've lost the address of a shop called Aquarista in a very 'macet' district. I have their number-+6021 6318542, boss number Lawrence +60812 8680810. I have to warn you these are old contacts and may have changed, so it's advisable to call to avoid disappointment. They use to have to very large tanks facing each other. One marine, one fully planted. Mine boggling. Hope it's still there, I used to get my planted supplies from them for my friends in Jakarta.

wow thanx for all the pointers. I don't really have the free slots to go wandering around although I do have a driver. sulawesi shrimp might not be a bad idea !

Now, if you want sulawesi shrimp, sometimes you can find them at Enoshima aquatic shop at kelapa gading.
Their contact is 02193392765 (Mr Johan).
Be advised that he might not be a good english speaker.
While you drop by, may as well grab some Wonder-Gro fertilizer if you havent got the chance to do so at Singapore
Another spot to visit is Margaguna fish arcade (moved out Barito arcade), that is just next to Pondok Indah Mall I. Look for Hanung's stall as he usually carry those very exotic fish you may have been looking for. It ranges from rare plecos, freshwater stingrays and all kinds of predatory fish.

I am back already, turned out to have ZERO time to do anything! but will keep a look out next time.
ps: exotic = things found only in Javabest is Rasbora baliensis and R. aprotaenia

The shop besides enoshima sells the sula shrimps too but you need to preorder. I think the number of species here is quite limited.
Enoshima has ready stocks of the more hardy species.
And yes Mr Johan is a really nice and knowledgeable guy. Got most of my stuff from him.

Choy, that's too bad, was hoping to see your loot.
Medicineman, Johan's sister or wife or mum[???] is further down the road in Kelapa Gading[can't remember road name] selling aquatic stuff as well if I remember correctly. I used to patrol the whole stretch looking for discus and aquatic plants. LOL.
When I saw her name card I did a double take. She was an engineer! anyway I spoke to Johan a few times who after that I met Wie Wie Keijaro who liked some of the magazines I brought along and sold it to him.
Turns out we probably know the same people and may have crossed paths. LOL. Sorry out topic.
Anyway, Choy, bring some aquatic related magazines to Jakarta on your next visit. Good talking point especially if your Bahasa Indonesia is limited. Mine was. Luckily I had a friend to translate a lot of words for me as some are wildly different from Bahasa Malaysia.

Wow. now i finally know where to go shopping on my next trip to jakarta. i often go there to work and always wonder where to find aquariums. Anyway if any of you wanna take cab who do no bring u to city tour, use only BlueBird taxi. they charge by the meter and are honest. if you wanna book the taxi its a minimum of 25000 rupiah.
Great info guys. thanks

too bad i din see this thread earlier else i might have linked up with Choy while i was there 2 weeks ago!

The Bluebirds are far from honest... especially if you cannot speak Bahasa, they usually take you for a city tour and pretend they dont know the way! Do be sure you know exactly where u wanna go.
That aside... You do need a certain element of luck to find what you want here.
If anyone needs direction for the KG shop, give me a PM.
