    Hi all,

Can anyone advise on what types of RO hardware is currently available to home users and the cost of a RO setup, where to get it, etc

Any inputs will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Are you going to use it for your family or to obtain cleaned water for your pet?

Try those american web site. I can't really remember. I enquired before, and it will cost me about $300 to bring in quite a decent RO unit.

Just for gauge, because I really can't remember much.

Lots of wastage of water since the output is usually very little & basically you can't use the unwanted water for drinking, cooking, gardening etc but can be use for mopping the floor or cleaning toilet.

    Even if it's 50% wastage it's quite a lot if it's 100L.

    Cheers!

I am currently using the Crystal Pro unit sold by Aquamarin. Good enough for me.

There's several version all below the $2xx mark but there's a version with high grade of resin that is above the $2xx mark. Check it out on their website-

Reef Depot also have RO/DI filter-

I had a quick look at the units... Those DI units are a good price although I do not know how they should be affixed? Directly to the tap and straight to the tank?

How different are the output from these units from RO? I'm thinking of using the water for apistogramma and paros...

Those are water purifiers if run in a series, it might be very beneficial to the water quality but if you're in need of a specific value of water, then RO or DI is the way to go. Like for example, you need 40 microsimens of conductivity for Ap. paucisquamis(Wild) to breed. That is where you adjust the water according to the desired value.(Add tap water to RO water)

Hmmmmn... for someone that has trouble manipulating/measuring water parameters.. I wonder if I should even embark on this...

My thought was to use some RO/DI water to reduce ph for some of my fishes, but what I would do is to add a certain percentage into the water change mix (e.g 1 to 2 1.25 bottles or something to that effect)

So that means i can use my Elken RO water system to real Apisto. Sounds good. Add tap water to RO water to get the right PH?

There are a range of values other then pH to get right for certain fishes i think. There are very picky ones & not so picky ones.

Ya i guess blue33, do a series of test on the water condition with the amount of water added to RO water to get the desired value.

I can think of a few values to play around, kH,GH,pH,conductivity which are quite important for breeding purposes. pH & conductivity do come with test pen so measurement should be a breeze.

    Cheers!

I install the Elken RO water system, at that time was for my newborn baby, they comes with hot and cool water, we will trying to save the trouble of making hot water for making milk, it has pre-filter at basin, which do the prefilter, certain percentage will go to the drain before going to the machine itself, the machine has about 6 filter again before the outlet, they said the design is for Astronauts in space to recycle their urine before they can consume. the water really purifies almost 100% impurities or so call minerals. It cost close to 2K. When you drink RO water the first time you will always feel of going to the toilet till you are used to it, too smooth i think, your skin complexion is much better also after drinking RO water. My maid like it too, she see the difference in her complexion.

Interesting... I went to google the Elken website but no reference to price... the writeup sounds a little like whats known commercially as "diamond water".

Could you also share the costs of running this RO water unit?
