silane
That is the changes is too much, and this is no good right?
will they die from 80% wc? on a separate situation - i top up 20% water with anti-chlorine added, next day 1 CRS died. but funny no one ate him up until he turned 'cooked red' like hae-be. could it be old age because he is quite big
how old is your tank? Actually for my case, I did not do the "textbook" method of changing water every week. I just top up water every week. Even top up water, I very scared, the shrimps very very unstable, a couple always swim to the top. There was during the first 2 months, now, tank OK. shrimps no longer swims to the top.
I suspect it is the water that we prepare for the top up or water change. I treat it with the two Anti-Cs. Could be the brand that I use, not so good. Anyway, nowadays I try not to do anything to the tank. Just top up bit by bit.
And one more thing...I introduced Ketapang leaves. I think it has good effects on the shrimps. So try that.

this tank is a nano cube - 6inches, 1 gallon. been surviving for 3 months now.
Hey bro, what filter do you use ar ??
I also got 6 inch tank, want to keep shrimp, but i not sure what equipment to use. even light is like oversize.

no filtration, no air pump- the only filter are plants and moss, and weekly to 10 days water change. the light i use is a halogen light about 6ft away at the ceiling - this keeps the plants going.
I notice the same with my 150 L shrimp tank. I do 50% water change twice weekly. To save efforts, I top water straight from my tap. But no harms done so far. The shrimps are breeding and thriving well.
I agree the hyper active behaviour is a response to water parameter changes. But my hypothesis is that the water and water parameter changes may simulate a heavy rainfall in nature. And the shrimps become active and seek food. I somehow interpret the hyper active behaviour as "happy" behaviour.
I also notice fishes and snails are in general more active (and ? happy) after water changes.
Sorry. Miss this post.
One question, how are your shrimps doing?
(A few months ago, I did an internet search on shrimps, hyper active, frantic, water change. Nothing came up.)

hi bro, are you from Hong Kong or local? why i ask is that Singapore water now has chloramine which stays in the water longer than chlorine. my guppies can take up to 80% wc (without anti-chlorine) but i haven't tried with crs. maybe 1day i will try. also another point is that maybe for a mature tank the chemicals get taken up faster so less stress on the crs . this may be subjective and needs experimenting
hi again, i am a HAPPY man!!! couple of days back my mosura s berried/got eggs. a few weeks back i actually saw them mating. i have 4 crs in this 1gallon nano tank

Hi,
You are right. I am from Hong Kong and our water is treated with chlorine. I take your points on chloramine and tank maturity. I just like to share with you my experience with CRS being hyper active after water change. My suggestion is that if your shrimps are doing well, perhaps you should not worry too much about it.
Others experience is of course welcome.

As I mentioned, I do not do water change, but just top up. Noticed a very interesting behaviour. After the top up, a couple of days, the CRS began to moult, and the CRS males are very active. Within days, the females berried.
Yet again, I top up again recently, and sure enough, a lot of male frenzy took place, 1-2days later. And again other females berried.
I think this type of "active" is OKas compared to my last time where a couple of shrimps always swim to the top for air.
Have posted some pictures in other threads. Have a look. Cheers.

I haven't done any wc for 1.5mths. A colleague who has CRS breeding like crazy in the office, advised me not to be to bothered about the water PH, etc, etc. The more you adjust, the worst it gets. Since I managed to breed successfully with minimal water change (once every 6 mths), I now try to keep to that format.
So, unless shrimps are dying, no point going to the extreme to ensure the perfect PH, GH, KH, etc.. Like what he said, just relax and enjoy the experience. Most important, to have a well-cycled tank.
