HI all! I have a small problem here. You see... most of the office don't open on the weekends hence no lighting. And because of my shrimp tank 35cm type is a filterless one.. i'm been thinking how to solve this problem on oxygen if my shrimps get too many. (About 10 adult/20 shrimplets)
Temperature no problem. The aircon trapped during the weekends is about 26~27. Weekdays about 22~24 in the water.

    Suggestion
a)Add a super small air pump for the weekends
b)Add a timer for the hang on light to switch on during weekend nights.
c)Add a very small hang on filter for the weekends.
d)Add a super small air pump operated by batteries.
    e)Add more moss.

Which one is better... any suggestion? For me, the best should be "b" because it is more discreet. Any other suggestion? Please help thanks!

judging from what you mention, your ultimate concern is oxygen in the tank right?

if so, having the light or a small pump is a better choice. please don't add more moss as it will deplete the available oxygen more quickly when there is no light.

i agree with luc tamago , as adding more plants would deplete the oxygen in the tank when there is no light .

i think a good way would be adding a battery operated filter as it both will filter the water + add oxygen ( make sure the water outlet creates bubbles )

Hmmm never heard of any battery operated filter or are you referring to a battery operated air pump? Those airpumps should pull you through the weekend if you go for the double D size battery type i guess. But if you are looking something quiet and discreet there will be a major problem they are noisy like hell.

there's a type of air pump which you can put in batteries and at the same time hook it up to the electricity inlet. what happen is the moment there's no electricity, the battery will kick in to operate the air pump.

this happens only when the battery kicks in. else th air pump will be off.

The batteries operated air pump will be expensive if D size batteries. I need to be discreet of adding things to the tank or making noise. I'm thinking of buying a timer for the weekend lights but i scared of ticking sound made by the timer every 15 minutes. All brands and models have the sound? Or Digital ones better?

Is there electricity available on weekends?
If so, just use a timer to ensure your hang on light is turned on daily during daylight hours. I do not prefer turning the lights on at night as it might stress the shrimps to encounter lighting in the day and night.

Some of my colleagues also keep shrimps in small tank setups on their desks. The setups are low-tech: no filters/water change/CO2 etc. Some moss/ferns with an overhead small lamp for lighting did the trick. One colleague even keep the tanks near the window but in the shade - so just using natural lighting.

    Tank Size : 35cm X 20cm X 23cm
Temperature in water when aircon on 24/5 : 22~24
Temperature when aircon off on weekends : 26~27
Just added a small hang on filter on the left 24/7. (not shown in the picture above)
