caridina + caridina = will crossbreed
neocaridina + neocaridina = will crossbreed
neocaridina + caridina = will not crossbreed
Hello,
Has anyone experienced any hybridization between captive shrimps?
I have some wild Caradina africana and am curious to know if I can keep some cherry shrimps with them without them hybridizing?
Thanks
caridina + caridina = will crossbreed
neocaridina + neocaridina = will crossbreed
neocaridina + caridina = will not crossbreed

in general, same gene then they are able to crossbreed.. do a search on this forum and you should see quite a few article..
Hello,
Thanks for the replies.
I will try dig up some pictures of my shrimps. I know I have them some where...

Hi all!
Thatīs quite too simple on my opinion ;-)
First of all genus Caridina is not monophyletic. Will mean, not all species asigned to this genus are really closely allied to each other. Some species of Caridina (e.g. members of the C. serrata species group) are more close to the genus Neocaridina than to other Caridina (like C. africana).
C. africana belongs to the C. nilotica species group and most probably will not interbreed with most of the Caridina sold in aquarium trade.
Regards
Werner
