Urgent shrimp Crisis!!!

Help!!!

I put my cherry shrimps in last Friday (from Aria) and was not at work over the weekend... On Monday, I had to disturb the inhabitants to put in the new piece of rock I got and this involved rearranging the Java fern on coconut husk already in the tank... didnt realize there were actually shrimp eggs underneathe... when I had finished, I finally realized the pale yellowish sacs on the substrate and a really freaked out female shrimp...

I didnt touch anything else especially the eggs and have been observing them now... the eggs have floated out to an uncovered area of the substrate and the "parents" have abandoned em...

Noob question 1: Do the eggs need tending and will they not hatch now due to me freaking out the parents? If so then AAARRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!

Noob question 2: Will other shrimps cannabalize the eggs now that they are unguarded and in the open? I spotted some shrimplets (too tiny to be the parents) going to the sacs and picking them up and then back down after sort of juggling with them...

I checked the shrimp in before I put em in the tank and I didnt see any egg carrying females since most are shrimplets with only 3 adults... guess some magic happened over the weekend but now I might have ruined it...

Hi , i'm sorry if i will give wrong info ... i had alot of Cherry Red Shrimps and after observing for so long ... female shrimps will bear the eggs in their belly will the shrimplets are form and the female will drop shrimplets directly , i do not think that they will lay eggs at somewhere and wait for it to hatch ... maybe these eggs of yours are somethings else's eggs i guess ... BTW , what is in your tank , as in any fishes in the same tank ? If so , i swear you will not see any offspring as the fishes will finish them up as snacks ... Not even SAE ... For what i know , the only fishes that can be kept with shrimps are ottos ...

the eggs are dropped by the female. Shrimplets or baby shrimps will hatched from the eggs which the female will carry at their belly areas. For cherrys you can see the small light greenish yellowish eggs at their bellies while crs are dark brown eggs.

They will dropped their eggs due to a few factors:

- stress
- a sudden change in their environment
- first timer pregnant mamas
- not yet matured females

There are times when the eggs are dropped but still hatched within 2 days but highly unlikely since they need to be so call "fertilised". Sad to say but the eggs are a goner and will be a food source for the rest of the shrimps. No worries once you see a female shrimps somewhere, your next batch of shrimps will comes along pretty fast.

it is possible that your female cherry dropped eggs due to stress, probably from acclimatising to the new environment.

it is possible to hatch eggs artificially, however, that is quite tedious and more for experts. Let your cherries settle down for a few weeks and if they are comfortable, they will lay eggs again.

Hi Bro Nullskull , so you mean that even after female discharged their eggs due to stress , there is still hope that shrimplets will pop out ? thats interesting ... i have never come across this ... maybe my tank is already stable , should have pay more attention when i intially throw in my Cherry Red Shrimps ... sheesh hopefully the next batch will be better...
