    Hi Guys,

I'm using those wall hanging type fish tank with a water pump at the bottom that sucks the water to the hang on filter on top. Changing the water pump is not easy because I have to to drain the tank before I can change it. So far I noticed my water pump only last for about a year before it conks out. Original pump was jebao (something), then I changed to the popular italian brand which I forgot the name , then now using eheim (conked out yesterday). Does these pumps really does not last that long?

Eheim pump seems to go on indefinitely . I have small pumps like Boyu (not conti brand) but they are still going strong for about 5 years, operating 24/7.

Eheim is not cheap. If time permits go check it out with the dealer and see whether it can be repaired.

is yours running 24/7 non-stop? i'm suspecting the reason mine conks out easily is because my tank comes with a timer that let it rest for 15 minutes every hour. i think it's better if it's continuously running non-stop.

Oh.. now I know.. I was quite puzzled over the casualty rate of your pumps. Clearly, kicking in and stop frequently will cause wear and tear in the pumps just like cars. Operate it 24/7 and see whether it still fails you so fast

not sure how your setup is, but is it possible that some derbies such it and prevent the impeller to rotate? pump become over heat and spoiled

Machine do not need to rest. This appear to be user error. The timer might be for the lighting.

i thought the mesh on the pump is enough to protect it from debris? the pump is located undergravel so most likely those mulm will be going in the pump. will this make it fail?

they really design the pump (power connection) with a timer. i will bypass it next time i replace the pump.
