Hi everyone ... was really wondering if setting up a Vivariums is illigal ? Its obvious that Vivariums are setup MOSTLY for pets which are illigal , so if discussion on Vivariums or setting up a Vivarium in your home be a threat that AVA personnels might raid your home ?

And what if AVA guys were to find an empty Vivarium in my home , will i be disturb for the rest of my life as in , will they suspect and keep raiding my home ...

Reasons for asking , Was really insterested in setting one up as Aqua scaping is still soak in water and really can't brings out the real jungle effect/feel and seems like its much more easy maintain then a Planted Tank ...

Please give your comments and suggestions ....

Some people keep a vivarium just for the plants, there are also animals that can be kept in a vivarium legally. I do not think the AVA of Singapore are as strict as their counterparts in other countries, but do not discuss any possibly illegal livestock and you should be fine.

They are stubborn. The thing is..90% of the so called "illegal" livestock which shows up in the news and papers are 100% legitimate in so many countries. It is illegal to even own local species. Even breeding local species is illegal. You are not even given the freedom to apply for such permits.

It is legal to posses many of the local species for the purpose of consumption though. I would hazard to wonder if the geckos may be considered to be illegally residing in my house (I do encourage their stay by not doing proper housekeeping).

Ahahaha ... bro shaihulud , thats a nice one ... gecko ( house lizard ) you mean ? Wahaha .... I really still do not know the real reason for prohibiting such lovely animals under our care , i do believe many people out there have thick knowledge about these animals and could easily breed them if they wanted to , but why not increasing these animals populations rather then letting die or having a hard time living in the wild and slowly be overtaken by cemented forest ... True that cemented forest is for our needs hence why not let these animals live with us as we are the ones to destroy their homes right ? Hope that i wouldn't offen any AVA personnals here ... I am just plainly curious ...

This is mostly just ignorance on the part of the AVA, give them another 20 - 30 years and they may start to become more enlightened.

I'm not holding my breath. I used to own a Tarantula (over 15 years ago) but my beautiful little spider has since passed on, I was younger and sillier then and they were not as draconian with their enforcement.

I would love to rear and breed them again, but will not be doing that again any time soon I guess.
