Hi folks, just wanna find out who swears by what? False bottoms, sump or cannister filter for your vivariums/terrariums? I've tried out both false bottoms and cannister filter, I'm thinking of going towards sump for my next setup (either a 4ft or 5ft setup).

How about a simple pipe UG system? I did that once many moons ago. Just DIY and connect to a small internal pump (RENA is great). Just dump lapis sand over it and it works beautifully, was untouched for a good 3 years before I decided to decom the viv. water nice and clear.

UG = Under Gravel system? hmmm interesting idea... I guess we can actually combine a few of the system together... e.g. UG + cannister filter or UG + Sump

Sump system will greatly increase your total water volume and will provide very good water parameters if correct medias are used.

with all the fertilizer and compost base on UG first then lapis sand?Surely choke the canister or sump in no time.Bad idea!

Unless place fine net over the UG, and small lava stones follow by fertilizer/compost base and finalize spread lapis sand over the rest. that's will be even better than just the above mentioned. Plants will grow well with this. agree?
    cheers

An under gravel system will only pull water that is nearest to the opening where the canister filter hose will sit on. The furthest area would not have adequate water movement.
