Chiller kick in period

hi guys, recently just got a resun cl 450 with external thermostat from a bro. would like to ask any effective chilling settings to maximize cost?

currently running on a 1.5ft cube with 2026. setting at 26deg - 28deg. still monitoring the duration, currently it takes 50 mins to cool down and approximately rise up to 28 deg in 2 hours.. is it normal for it to run for 50mins to cool down 2 deg? i read some post that some bros chiller only runs for 5mins?

is there any difference if i set a 1 deg difference? it seems like the same to me, shorter cool down period and shorter rest time.

You're using an external thermostat, so, it's reading your actual tank temperature. This would usually take longer time cut off compared with those controlled by internal thermometer. However, it also depends on your flowrate, the faster it is, the better.
Resun is a brand whereby it can only control +2 degrees, meaning it'll kick in after it's 2 degrees higher than your setting. Compared to other brands, only +1 degrees or even less than 1. So, IMO, yours is working just fine.

I am using Resun CL650, it's +1 above my setting then it kicks in. Set at 25, cool when it reaches 26, and stop when it reaches 25.

But I think I remember when set at 27, it did kick in at 29, cannot recall 100% though.

what about duration?? currently more concern about the running cost... calculated my cost if it continues, CO sure complain.. at least additional $30..

running time is roughly the same as resting time.

from 26 to 25 degrees, takes about 40mins to cool down a 4*2*1.5 feet tank, chiller CL650 used with Eheim 2028

50mins to cool down a 1.5ft tank, something is wrong. Do get it checked.

Flow rate too much? External thermostat reflects same temp as my traditional thermometer as well as digital

Chiller gas refrigerant might be leaking.

hi bro, your tank 1.5ft cube...
Temp. set at 26 degrees...

the Resun cl450 takes 50minutes to
cools 2 degrees down from 28 to 26 degrees for your 1.5ft tank...
i think something is wrong somewhere, maybe i am right maybe i am wrong..

the way i look at it is the external thermostat is o.k...
now comes the chilling part( the compressor)..its o.k too...
as its still chilling the water...i suspect its leaking gas...
oh btw the flowrate is fine...nothing to do with the flowrate..
last option is to send for service cause that will cost you $50-$120...
so do consider is it worth the servicing the chiller..

thanks for the analysis troyz, got your chiller from reaper yet? wanted to get it initially... gas leaking.. is there any symptoms? like hissing sound? some areas cold to touch? smell ? which i think there won't be any smell...

Bioplast at Boon Keng road, look for Mr. Tan...

If it's a confirm leaking case, find the leak and do a patch up. Otherwise, you will have to come back to top up gas again.

by the way, how did you place your chiller? You need to have good distance from the chiller back to the wall. Poor circulation will reduce chiller efficiency.

If gas is leaking, your floor will be oily like mine did when it exploded! No joke, a CL650 ruptured and released all the refrigerant onto the floor and evaporated! I would think that yours might be operating fine. It might depend on the place where you place the chiller. My oversize chiller took roughly 25 minute to cool 1 degree.

i just got an advise from a bro, he mentioned that since our chiller is small, the capacity of the gas is not that much. so if there was a leak, within a few days it will be depleted and it will not cool anymore? if it is able to cool for let say 1-2 weeks can this cause be eliminated? or unless the leak is so minute that it will take a longer time to be depleted, in that case it should not cause much impact on the performance?

thanks for sharing some experiences, looks like i can partially eliminate gas leaking as the cause of it?

my tank is located in my room, once i did without tornado fan and it hits 29-30. with fan is around 27-28. to verify whether is warm environment the cause, does using back my fan in line with my chiller and see whether does the run time decrease justify it?
