In Singapore we called them Elatine Triandra (aka APP, Ah Pek Plant). It does look similar to Staurogyne sp., their leaves and stem are smaller and it grow lower, they creep faster than Staurogyne sp.

Elatine Triandra and Elatine Gratioloides although look the same but it is probably different variant.
From what I understand "From reading only not experience" Elatine Triandra is a demanding plant to grow needs bright light and co2 and lots of trimming to prevent sub growth rot. The local "Gratioloides" is easy I have fields of it growing in sub standard light no CO2 and minimal fertilisation and nothing but river sand. How ever it grows slowly but consistently never trying to leave its prostrate habits.

the leaf shape is similar but "Gratioloides" has a small leaf and grows prostrate "like carpet"

Yes there are 12 variants of Elatine species scattered throughout the world, these 2 mentioned above really looks similar. From what i read only few were considered good aquarium plants. And the most prefer is Elatine Triandra, we can find them in our LFS not sure on Elatine Gratioloides.

My experience with Elatine triandra, it is quite easy plant. It is the fastest plant I ever have. It is able to grow new submerse leaf within 3 days after planting. I never experience any plant this fast before. It can grow in wide range of light but in low light it will start to grow tall instead or carpet. It require rich substrate, well not surprise because it grow very fast.

By the way have you ever try Glossostigma diandrum? If not mistaken, it is suppose to be native Australia plants and the leave should be smaller than normal glosso (Glossostigma Elatinoides).

No never tried it haven't had tanks in a while and have just been collecting local stuff that I have found for new a new tank.
PS wasn't my intention to hijack just add a suggestion for an easier option.

Sadly my Staurogyne sp. in my office tank is melting when there's like aircon but the Staurogyne sp. at home are doing quite well with no aircon... ok off topic now

I'm not really familiar with the Triandra "APP" but the Aussie stuff for sure as long as you keep up the humidity.
Is it really off topic again APP and "EG" are very similar

yes you can plant APP emerse, actually the one you bought from LFS is normally with emerse leave. Emerse leave is round
