    Re: Office tank

    Hi Peeps.

As mentioned previously here are some updates of my current tank. Most of the BBA / Stagehorns had been killed with the help of H202(Hydrogen Peroxide).
Belows are some pictures to share, however i am still facing some problems with plants melting and some black spots on older leaves. Hopefully peeps out here
    could help.

Some changes i made to my set up as below :

    1) Replacing my faulty Solenoid so that the C02 supply is constant.
    2) Add in a Co2 checker to ensure Co2 has 30PPM
    3) Adding a rain bar.
    4) Change the media in my cannister (replaced bio rings with lava rocks)
    5) Add in another 12 Watts of T5 lights. (I belive some leaves at the bottom of the stems are dying because they lack of light)
    6) Weekly water change to get rid of debris and dead leaves which cause serious alage problem.

    Full tank shot.

Most of the BBA and Stagehorns are gone. Almost nothing left now.

My Staurogyne are growings but not creeping. Too little lights? I also notice that some leaves are melting.

    Side View of my tank.

Upclose of Moss and Netrite Snail.

My Bds, Sorry for the bad picture.

    Another view of my BDS

Crs, Alot of my nicer crs died due to Co2 toxication.

    L183

Sorry about the out of focus L183.

Any one able to indentify this plant? And what requirements needed? Lastely Some of the leaves are turning brown, any one can tell me why?
Ludwigia Brevipes leaves have very small green spots on them and also algae attack previously. Should i cut them away?

Another view of the plant, some turn brown while some became slightly transparent. Lack of K?

    CHeers!! Have a good weekend!

Hi, why would plants be bad for the shrimps ? They should be happier with a planted environment,
Most shirmps breeders use moss because moss are hardy and they don't need high requirements for lights
Co2 and liquid ferts which might be harmful to shrimps. We are all learning anyway, I'm learning as well
So there is no such things as noob questions . Haha
    Cheers

Do you mean the foreground plant? If you are referring to it - Staurogyne.

    Re: Office tank

Uhmmmm... If im not wrong the plant that was IDed by navanod is not vallisneria. It should be Sagittaria subulata. I may be wrong regarding the species but im quite sure it is not vallisneria.

Have to agree with navanod on advice he gave ^^

My own advice. To my understanding. Light is the limiting factor in a aquarium. It will determine the amount of nutrients and c02 the plants uptake. E.g. Plants recieve X amount of light, thus will require Y amount of c02 and Z amount of nutrients to grow at the fastest rate possible given the amount of light. Thus if you increase light intensity, the plants will require more nutrients and more c02. This can lead to deficiancy in c02 or nutrients if the light is increased while c02 and nutrients remain the same as before. That is why light is the limiting factor in a aquarium while nutrients and c02 should be a non-limiting factor. This ensures plants get everything they need. So more light does not necessarily mean better growth.
Of course plants have a limit to their rate of growth.
Plants can grow as long as there is light. That is why low tech tanks exist. For plants to grow healthily, they need 3 main things, light carbon dioxide and nutrients to be in balance.

ohh and another advice would be, if you kill off the algae or remove it, it will just grow again and again and again. This is because the root of the problem is not being solved. Killing with H202 or by adding algae eaters, helps tackle the problem at hand but is not a long term solution. Algae is caused by ammonia from what i recall.
    Cheers,
    JJ

Oh? Are we talking bout the same plant? Haha
I'm looking at the tape like plant at the front.

I think you explained that very clearly bro, good one! I learnt it from reading Tom Barr...but his version too cheem sometimes

Ammonia causes some algae to go into reproductive and spore scattering mode...so yea...in a way, it'll look like ammonia caused the algae outbreak although the underlying problem may be more than just that

hmmm.. It looks more like blyxa japonica to me. If its turning brown and melting, give it some time and it will spring up and grow like weeds.
