THats a horned nertie snail. Very adaptable to all parameters. Doesn't eat plants and won't reproduce in the aquarium.

Phew. Was worried it will take over my tank.
No wonder it got pointy parts on the shell.
I noticed that it will crawl out of water when still in the bag. Will it crawl out of my tank?
Yup, it may crawl out sometimes, but normally they wont go too far from the tank. I realise that the zebra nerites tend to crawl out more often than the horned nerites. Also, it will lay eggs that wont hatch, but the eggs may look quite unsightly. In my tank, they laid eggs all over my driftwood, so my driftwood is now speckled haha.
Mine have never left the tank and just eat algae all the time. Put 4 into my tank a year ago, number is still 4. Haha.
Cheers,
Bernard

other than horn nitrite any other snails to recommend? won't reproduce and good algae eaters?

I had this same snail and i noticed white hard tiny spots on my tank walls and DW. Are these eggs of this snail? Also realised that the spots are hard to remove and leave a slight stain on the glass

They are doing what papa & mama like to do when IN THE MOOD.
Soon, you will get eggs on your driftwoods.
It is best to get Nerite snails that are of the same sex, as you do not want them to mate and lay their eggs all over your driftwoods/rock which is very unsighty.
I never have any crawling out of my tank.
Some people said that as long as the water parameter is right, they will not crawl out.

They are doing it all the way since yesterday. I am gonna separate the one on top and put it into the sump. Hope it will stay there. I believe the one on top is the male right?
They are really very good at cleaning algae. So good till it removed the paint from one of the artificial wood while clearing the algae. Hope it won't die from consumption of the paint.

Any idea how we differentiate the sex of the snails then?

Too late in removing the male. The female is fertilized and started laying eggs on the DW. Manually scrapped all that are visible off.
Is there a more natural way to removing it. Like fish that will eat the eggs from the DW directly?

Is this a Horned Nerite Snail also? I bought it together with the rest but it looks slightly different with spotted strips instead of solid one. It is darker green also.
This is how the other 3 looks like.

Now I know what those white dots on my DW are. Interestingly, they are usually laid out in neat lines.
Someone posted early in this thread that they don't reproduce in the aquarium. I believe mine have. There are a few small (2 to 3 mm) snails with similarly shaped shells in my aquarium. Shells are translucent, but starting to see the black stripes developing. Too small to confirm, but crossing my fingers.

That's interesting, Vinz. Don't think anyone has been able to breed nerite snail in aquarium. Some say the white eggs are actually cocoons and they won't be able to hatch.

Vincent, maybe your aquarium water turned saltish unknowingly? The food or ferts?
Mine are everywhere, on the glass, DW, leafs. So many of it with just 3 snails and the eggs laying had been happening for the whole week. Maybe spring is their mating season.
The planing tweezer is a good tools for scrapping the eggs off.
I am suspecting there is another male among the 3 and I have been trying to catch it in action. Maybe I should move them into a smaller container to see them easier.

But they are actually quite cute especially when you can see them grazing on the glass.

Well, have to wait until they grow bigger and show their true colours. :-p

Nope. I mean the only way to tell whether my supposed baby Nerites are really what I think they are is to wait for them to grow up.
