Known as the Goddess of Darkness and also the 'Gem of Ayer Hitam', the elusive Betta persephone. 'Ayer Hitam' is really a sight to behold in full colouration. I was fortunate enough to come by the opportunity of collecting this rare species during the recent mass (mini ) order which fellow wild betta enthusiast, Mudskipper, had kindly organised.

The pair has started colouring up and are feeding well. Here are the photos I promised to share (not very sharp though.. they keep moving! ..Also, my shaky hands and poor picture taking skills contribute a lot too! Haha). I'm not sure if there's a difference in the muar and Ayer Hitam strains, but the ones from Ayer Hitam do come across as slightly redder (comparing their pelvic fins). Or it's probably just the great quality of Hermanus's fish! Do enjoy!

Beautiful irids along the body length.

Flaring at it's own reflection in a mirror I placed beside the tank.

I like this shot (though unclear) as it brings out the blue dorsal which can be seen only at certain angles - of which I only managed to capture in a few shots (this being the best one >.<)

An underview, the red colouration of the body still remains, characteristic of the coccina complex members.

    Thanks for reading!

Hi! I got it from the recent "Ordering wild betta from overseas" thread. Hermanus's stock/price list is there. Hope it helps!

Yes! Very nice! Quite happy I got them too. I'm sure the Unimacs look great after they settle in and start eating regularly! The only problem I have with larger Betta are aggression (hard to comm them) and limited real estate space to cater to them! Otherwise I'd try them too. Haha!

    Re: Goddess of Darkness

Haha. How long have you been keeping your pair? I don't know many people who keep this species though. Always looking for people to swap with to expand the gene pool.
