Some bros recommend to use a pump to pump the water in. For me, i choose to suck the hose (connecting to the rainbar) and get the flow moving.
Hi guys, I received a 2yr old Eheim 2215, from my Gf's dad. But I'm unable to make it function properly.
When I switch on the power, the motor and impellers are working, but it's not drawing water as I can see air trap in it. So I used a submersible pump to manual pump water into it, once the flow comes out from the outlet, I cut of the submersible pump. But once I cut off the pump the canister also stops drawing water, but the canister pump is still running but no intake. I check for possible leakage that might cause air to escape out as the canister should have pressure in it, but none found.
What are the possibilities of the canister not functioning?
- Possible air pockets in the canister? Solutions to purge trap air out?
- Pump spoil for the canister? (But the motor is running when I switch on the power.)
Any advice how to prime the canister? Or test to run to see any malfunction?

check the impeller does it in good condition? Can the impeller blade turn freely? what I mean is you hold the magnet part and turn the blade. Does it able to turn or stuck at certain point? By right it should stop after about half turn.

Why not get a pail of water, and just use your hand to hold the motor head paritial submerged with only the o-ring area below water and see if water is able to pump out.
If it works then it is the air bubble in your canister. If it doesen't then its most likely either motor or impeller problem.
Zenith83, this is exactly what happened to my 2213. My take is that the impeller is spoiled. Haha

It's very likely that the impeller is spoiled. I had an occasion when my Atman filter which was running fine suddenly the outlet pipe did not come out any water and the motor head was very hot. I thought the filter is spoiled but when i opened the filter head to check on the impeller as previously it was making a loud rattling noice, i realised that the impeller is spoiled to the point that it can no longer rotate. Had i not noticed that the outlet pipe was not coming out any water, i think the motor head would have blown due to the heat.![]()

Did you ensure the impeller is properly seated in the compartment? Are there 2 rubber bushing at both end of the impeller shaft?
