My cheapo 3ft x 1ft x 1ft planted tank

Well, what I would usually do is to rinse new plants in water before adding them into the tank.

Not sure if there's a piece of thick wooden base under the WHOLE bottom of the glass tank. If there is, then it is well supported.

But if there's no thick wooden base, the tank is not supported at both ends, the weight of the water column bears down heavily on the glass bottom at the sides. In the event of any floor movement, eg due to an afterquake elsewhere, be prepared for a flooded floor when the bottom cracks.

So rest assure it will hold the weight of the tank. I m truly appreciate u guys continuously reminder of the danger i may face. All notes taken.

It looks like the tank is supported by a wooden plank at least 15mm in thickness.

Depending on your preference for a carpet. The conventional is always HC or if not hairgrass. Other crypts like wenditii can be used (Wenditii has different variations; brown, green, miyoya, tropical). Other lesser conventional foreground plants are probably mini nanas. The nanas will probably grow much slower than the rest of the crypts and you will have to ensure that the rhizomes are not hidden from the light.

You still will not be able to leave too much weight on one side, Regardless that the plank is sturdy enough.

I see that the latest photo shows the tank with a thick wooden base with a correct size stand too, which look solid and good.

If I have this setup, I will be extremely satisfied, lol.

If you are looking to get into a planted tank, you might want to browse through some of Amano's works. It might give you some ideas and then work your way from there on. I would like to suggest - which felix had also mentioned, is that you avoid as much as possible to overload the sides. Being "kiasu" Singaporeans, we always like to err on the side of caution, unless an engineer can come in and certify that the tank and stand can withhold whatever weight without giving way . Wood would generally be the safer bet since it would not add more structural weight.

I see some slates in the middle of the tank. You can probably go with the themes, "Doorway", "towards infinity". Too cliche, but works I guess?

Please change a stand please..... Sure your tank will give way one day, even if it don't just think about the safety of kids if you have one. The corner is very dangerous what if kids run and fell hit the corner???? Please think hard about the pros and con on your whole setup. Saving money this is not the way to do it. I may sound hush but it is for the safety for everyone living in your house.

Will you be able to show us a bigger and clearer picture of your tank and stand?
The previous pictures so far are not clear enough to show everything.
Maybe you can switch OFF the aquarium lights, switch on the room lights, and open all the windows/doors before you take the picture.

Yes, like I said, I will be delighted to own that tank and stand, especially with that piece of big thick wood under the tank.
That thick piece of wood alone is a treasure, lol. Overall, a good design, I would say.

Well, most folks would stay with the traditional thinking.
Think TS would not be doing any serious rockscape for now.

P.s, guys is it just me or the plank is rather outstanding in color???

@blackgf: the stand has a small cover. I suppose you will be stuffing the equipment there? Looks like your going to meet some piping challenge

Also want to share a snap shot of my office low tech plant with cheapo shrimp. Didnt change the water only weekly top up. The plants & shrimp still surviving after 6 months. The java moss (i think) is tie onto a bogwood & another mesh with fissiden is growing too.

I am not worried about your tank but I am worried for your safety and your family members, somemore the tank is without centre bracing. A steel stand is less than $100, very worthwhile investment. You can make a cabinet style by attaching color corrugated board to the stand. As for PP, it is worthwhile to note PP is deadly to all organism if incorrect dosage is used. My advise to read up more, please note all tanks parameters are different by nature due to different wood, sand, filter, temperature. My last input is if you are creating a drift wood scape, best substrate is white sand for the contrast. That is from my angle, aesthetic over actual biotope.
