DIY-ed my own lilypipe out of 12mm acrylic tube because glass lilypipes are expensive and since i like making stuffs so made my own.
Quite a cool experience and i think i wont buy a ready-made-bought-from-shop glass ones.
Sorry i dont have pictures of the process. Only have the final product in my tank. Made it a month back.
12mm acrylic tube was bought from artfriend.
    Cheers!

Cool! How did you achieve the curves on the acrylic?

The bulb was made similar to glass blowing. Initially tried to manually blow it with lung power by attaching tubes but cannot get a nice bubble haha so i used a bicycle pump. The bend was made by heating the tube carefully using a blowtorch with an insulated power cable in the tube to prevent the tube from collapsing. The process is similar to those diy lilypipes found in other forums, minus the salt packing cos i think it would be messy haha

I got a cheap glass lily pipe set for about USD20 from the web sometime back but seriously, I find yours looking much nicer. Good work, if only I can do a piece like yours.

Wow i am impressed by your mad skill for handy work. It would be really cool if you have a photo journal of the making process.

I think not all of those cheaper ones have the right curves for the correct flow. Wanted to order a set online but looking at reviews of those kinda made me decide on this project haha. You should try it! there are quite a few videos online for tutorials

I think coloured lilypipes would be frown upon by professional aquascapers!! hahah! since they are meant to be invisible but i think it would look quite cool though, imagine a smoke-black lilypipe :O cool or what huh haha

I think i would do a pictorial of the process when I make the next set

I totally agree with you but just couldn't stop my "shopping" finger to click "buy". I tested it, good flow, very much alike the expensive ones in the market. I think it still goes down to luck. Still, I really want to try what you did but is afraid of my lack of skills.

Thats some awesome acrylic shaping skills!

I've checked with many local acrylic makers and even they can't do the "acrylic blowing" method to re-create the ideal lily pipe shape... you should definitely do up a batch for sale, alot of people here would be keen on getting them.

Re: Just another diy lily pipe

Well ultimately i would want a glass lilypipe simply because it looks too awesome and i would feel like a pro hahahah
Blowing acrylic tube is not easy and can be quite inconsistent, so making a batch which looks identical would take practice lol. Maybe when i have perfected the craft!
Thanks for the support guys (and girls haha cant really tell from the username)

I'm drooling over a black acrylic lily pipe against my black background..

--> Just to give you a vote of confidence, coloured ones need not be too perfect in terms of the curves i suppose.. Not that obvious (even if the curves are a bit off symmetrical) as compared to the 'glass transparent look'. Maybe..

Anyway, i'm still drooling over a black acrylic lily pipe..
