    Hi all,

I was planning to switch my lights for a LED system. Checked with C328 and they mentioned having UP AQUA T SERIES: (pics from google)

While there's not much information to find from the net (assuming this product is underutilized and new i suppose)

    Comparing to the Z series, this model had onle .5W x 7 = 3.5 W? (Z series had .06 x 90 = 5.4 W)

Anyone tried using this product and managed to grow glosso successfully? Taking in opinions before i head over to the LFS to grab one

    Thank you all!

You can have a look at the discussion on this thread, the thread starter is also using a T-Series lightset and looking to grow carpet plants like glosso too:

Maybe you can check with him to see the progress of the plant growth.

Note that the Z-Series light specs on East Ocean's website are based on the old models, seems they haven't updated the page yet.... the new model for 36cm Z-Series version uses 16 x 0.5W LEDs (if i remember correctly) so its more than double the number of LEDs compared to the equivalent T-Series lights.

Hey, thanks UA! Was hoping you could reply. Checked with Polyart and they only had this in stock but was taken aback with the amount of LED as compared to it's Z series. Hopefully they are carrying the updated 16 x 0.5 Watts as you mentioned.

When choosing LEDs, what is the defining factor that we should look out for? I've seen many places mentioned that WPG is obsolete in terms of LED, so what should I look for? Lumens?

Yeah, WPG as a guideline is quite obsolete when it comes to LEDs because they are usually more power efficient and their lights are directional, so the majority of the light emitted from LEDs shine directly on the plants (compared to T5 lights whereby more of the power is produced as heat and the light emitted is omni-directional, so it needs reflectors to re-direct the light, hence less efficiency).

The directional light path of LEDs also requires some consideration in choosing different LED light designs too, for example if your tank has a wider front to back distance, then you may need to get LED lights which are arranged in a wider more spread out pattern, or use multiple sets positioned for better coverage.

For comparison purposes, lumens can be a good guide, so is PAR (if the manufacturer lists it or you have a reliable PAR meter)... both give an indication if the amount of visible light emitted or how much light gets to plants at different depths, though the tuned spectrum of the LEDs also count towards how effective they are at growing plants too.

Specs and numbers aside, for most new users the best method is to check various planted tank/aquascape journals (which match your tank setup) that use LED lights and track their respective plant growth to find out which LED brands and models are suitable. That would eliminate most of the guesswork as someone would have already tried and tested the specific LED lightset model to successfully grow-out a planted tank.

Hello! I was searching for reviews regarding the T series after seeing it in polyart while searching for the z series. Diazman are you looking for the Z series too?

Z series were not available in both polyart & aunty's shop @ c328 (showed them the picture and they mentioned not carrying in their store.. probably can order off them ah..) So i saw the T series lying outside the racks at C328 and grabbed one.. So far so good, can grow marsilea hirsuta. Just gotten a bag of glosso from felix, and planted in the tank. See how it goes if the led is powderful enough to spead the glosso..

Re: UP Aqua T Series LED Lightset

Maybe I just share my experience of glosso and Pro Z lights. I was growing glosso carpet in a 45cm tank with Pro Z, they didn't do so good and keep growing upwards. I planted them the way Fishy Business taught me, 1-2 stalks deep into the substrate(ADA Amazonia). I was also dosing daily potassium(about 5ml). After a while I decided to change my lights to a dymax PL light and the growth increase at least 10 times. In a week and half, half the tank is carpeted. Eventually I grew sick of it and pull them all out and sold to a nice Bro here.

By the way, my tank is 28cm in height.

Just sharing, hope yours will grow well.

hey there. its can grow glosso alright BUT getting it to carpet is another story. Almost 2 days after i planted them (25 june). Gonna just continue "training" these so they can spread..

Btw, this tank is only a glosso tank..

Same as killkyo, my glosso has been growing vertically for almost a week now. No signs of spreading horizontally yet. I'm going to let it continue grow and see. Might have to trim some and replant soon.

ahaha, mine is the direct opposite. I got a dymax PL lightset but decided to swap to LED since the heat generated is just not convenient for my small scaled set-up..

Mine got pretty hot as well. At least up 2 degrees. I'm keeping it at 28-29 now with a small dymax fan, topping up 1.5l every 2-3 days to prevent me from hearing from the lily pipe outlet. A little trade off to see my red plants really red.
