Hi sorry for the noobs question what at what reading we need to to top up co2 gas?
From my experience, once the main tank gauge pressure start dropping below 900 PSI, then its an indication the tank has perhaps 10-15% gas left (at this stage, the Co2 will be in gas form, instead of liquid form). You can probably still get a few more weeks of usage, depending on your injection rate, but it'll be best to top up soon to avoid issues.
Some people sell or buy Co2 tanks with 500-600 PSI left and assume still have 50%, but in reality its already close to being depleted.

or if you are more "stingy", then use till it depletes totally then top up
You will start seeing algae if you do that
It will be time to top up the tank when its empty.....
Hmm I just topped up my co2 not 2 weeks ago. It's at 700 psi now... I'm pretty sure there's still a lot to go though.

I usually have another back up cylinder ready, so I can ultitise the CO2 fully.

i do that too! i very cheapsakate hahaha, se until totally no more than i swap with my spare cylinder than send the empty one to be refilled. So like what TS is asking, how do we know when to refill co2 cylinder ?
Back in the days when I was using a single stage regulator, I noticed that when it drops to 500 or so, the co2 levels are very irregular. If you are close to maxing co2 in your tank, your margin of error at this stage is very low! You can easily kill your fishes in one single day. Of course if you are are using low co2 levels, you probably will only notice more skittish fishes or some gasping when you are reaching the lower levels like 200-500psi. With dual stage regulators, I do not see any changes in co2 levels injection even at 200 psi. Note its stage and not gauge.
