I think I've found the answer to how the filter medias should be stacked. http://www.discoveraquatics.co.uk/filtration/2224.htm
After being in the store room for 13 or more years, I took out my Eheim external filter for a test drive to see if I can still use it for my to be purchased 2 ft tank and guess what? It is still working. After the initial clearing of trapped air bubbles, it was humming so quietly. No wonder they said Eheim is like the Ferrari of external filter.I was using it to keep Discus previously in a 4 ft tank.
I just want to confirm the model I have is indeed 2224 as I can't find the manual. Externally, it looks like this: https://www.eheim.com/en_GB/products...-experience250 but it has 3 filter baskets within. It has the word Eheim Professional printed on the pump head. I think that model must have been phased out or renamed. Any kind soul can point me to where I can download the manual. I will need to buy the fine filter wool, sponges, and other filter media.
As it has been quite a while since I've used this filter, can someone share with me what I should put in each basket starting from the bottom?
Thank you very much.

Couldnt agreed more with you ,Eheim is still the best, i been using it for more than a decade, you need to change or standby the rubber parts other than that it is all good.
Just found my Eheim manual. As mine has 3 filter baskets, the model is 2228. I bought it in 13 Feb 1997 from K&K Aquarium and Bird Center in Tampinese St 21. That makes it 18 years old! Seems that there is a newer model with the same model number.
Yes zerofighterx101, I've replaced the washer surrounding the base of the top cover which contain the pump. It was leaking each time I have a power trip way back in 2002. I've noticed that the only way I can control the outflow to the tank is to vary the outflow lever between 1 and 0. When I was using it for my discus tank, both outflow and inflow level were set to "1".
These are the old birds eheim cannisters. New one has priming lever and such. Ny opinion more parts more prone to breakage. Just replace my lever on 2073 n priming button on another model.
How much bio media should I get for each basket in my legacy 2228 professional? Is 1L sufficient or should I get 2L?
The basket should be able to sit nicely without sitting on the media.
