but do keep an eye out for fin rot which is rather common for Altums when stress or during the 1st few weeks after introducing them into a new enviroment.

Hi Mervin, thanks for your advice.

So far, they look ok to me, hungry for food, rush to me when I go near the quarantine tank. No fin rot at the moment and what shall I do when the fin rots? One of the altums is very aggressive, it will attack and drive the other 5 away. It is most obvious after feeding, it seems to dominate the area where I throw in the food.

I didn't put any medicine or salt in the quarantine tank. shall I?

there will alway be the dominant one in any "agressive" fishes group like cichilds.
    its normal behaviour, no worries.

Seachem ParaGuard seem to be a very good "all in one" medication that have i used with great results.

Hi guys, wild caught altum are seasonnal and they are aound late July to august. Their strip are browish red not black. I have bought 15 from Gans last July and now left only 4. Last thur went to seaview and they had stock at $1xx.00 for pack of six is quite ex IMHO. They have 7 adult altum for display. You could chose over at Gans and they cost $2x.00 each for that size. Maybe should pay them a visit. Was think of buying some but i have six heckel already in my 4x2x1.5.

OT I know.. but is it advisable to post price to such details?
It will only encourage bickering amongst LFS IMO ($1 or 50c less for $100 items for example) and ended up we do not get quality stuff because all shops try to cut corner here and there.

Don't flame me, this is just my thought on publishing price.

Picked up 2 altums at Neo Kim Suey on saturday to make it 8 for my tank. Besides the real one, they also have 'hybrid' altums, that's what the boss said. The bybrid were quite beautiful, very long fins and high body.

    Hi Ernest

Read something about heckels and altums are not ideal tankmates due to some cross infections, etc. Any comments, yours looks heathy and great together

The infections come from a certain disease from wild angels and not every angel would carry the disease. Once the angels had been treated or are not from the wild, they would be safe with discus.

I added the heckels half a year later when the altums were stable. they were about the same size. so far no problems but i guess the the altum will out grow the discus in future

I am sorry to tell you that hem.. at C328 so far never seen any altum angels. Heard Malaysian breeders have hybrid that looks like altum but is not. Altum costs at least 30 each and it's impossible to have hundred swimming together. A dozen most likely. Yes they also die easily.
