if you can trained them to be shorter, you should keep them in your tank. They do look very nice contrast to the greenery.

Exactly what I am trying to do. Managed to get some results in my earlier attempts ... i.e. shorter lotus leaves.

for the lotus, you can train them to be shorter, but cutting off tall leaf.

Hi bro , nice tank u have there...i saw the stunted tetra ...naturally there are not like that ... next time round i was wondering what will they come up with... maybe stunted apisto or cardinal

They are not stunted, they are genetically modified to take on a balloon shape...

Gen-X previously kept their lotus low by constantly nipping the plant floating leaves. They even managed to make it look like half a soccer ball.

Excatly, over time(but not as long as bonsai, fortunately ), the plant will starts growing low, as BFG pointed out, cut off the floating leaves.

I have been out of action for a while ... o/s assignment for 3 weeks. Yes its Lapis sand and the lotus is still as small as before after 3 weeks' absence. Still waiting for my glosso to spread though.

Taiwan moss. It started like a 5cents coin and grew to this size after 3 months.

hi, I got 1 question to ask.

How do you guys train ur tiger lotcus to stay short?
How do you guys trim it?
By cutting the stem directly under the leaf? or
By cutting the stem from the roots?

If cutting away the stem plus leaf will the leaf grow back again?

I am doing the same for my tank, in fact I have a lawn of red lotus.

The trick is to cut one leaf at a time, starting with the biggest. Each time a new leaf is about to sprout, cut the next biggest leaf. Repeat the process till the effect is acheived, take note the leaves do come out faster each time you prune.

Also ensure that there is slow releasing iron tablets in the soil. I think they are called lacterite if I got it correct, the reason for red lotus being red is the need for iron. you can get the tablets from Y618.

The tank would look really nice if the Lotus were placed behind the wood amongst the green and the front kept simple with a HC lawn instead of a Glosso(which I can see is already growing upwards) lawn.
