Yeah, cucumbers are much cheaper... zuchinni tend to be quite expensive, especially the premium branded "organic grown" versions.

What do you do with the dead shrimp? Net it out or let other shrimps consume it just like in the wild? There are about 50 to 100 cherry shrimps in my 2 feet tank with a horn snail and some mini ramshorn snails. The dead shrimp will be gone in a day or two if I don't net it out.

If your tank is stable, a dead shrimp wouldn't affect it much so can just leave it in to provide an alternative meal for the others... at least they can consume and recycle some minerals from its shell too.

You never know what the cause of death is.. Which makes it a little risky to leave it inside as food.

If there is only 1 death, I think it should be okay to leave it there. If there are multiple deaths, I will quickly net them out and find out the cause.

sometimes when your tank has tons of shrimp, a dead shrimp will last for one night and be gone in the morning, haha, you don't even know they are gone.

Due to the recent hot weather, my tank has been hitting 30C quite often during the day. Although the shrimps seem to be doing okay, I decided to buy a cooling fan. I bought Dymax Windy W-7. I was hoping it could reduce 2 or 3C of the water temperature but it managed to reduce 1C only. Hmmm... not very happy with the result. Is there anything else I can do (no intention to buy a chiller)? Is it okay if I leave the fan on for 24 hours or is it better to turn it off during the night? Will the motor overheat?

Aquarium fan cooling efficiency depends alot on the ambient temperature and surrounding heat sources (ie. heat from aquarium lights, filter motors, nearby windows etc), and also the size/power of the fan compared to the tank volume and surface area (ie. larger and higher air volume on greater surface area = better evaporation effect and cooling).

If your tank is hitting 30°C without the fan, then check the current equipment and placement of the tank to see if you can adjust anything to reduce potential heat contributors. You may also want to try a larger fan which might be able to increase the cooling effect too.

You can leave the fan on for 24 hours, it'll help keep the water cool at night and the lower temperature will carry over to the next day too. If your fan overheats noticeably until the casing is very warm or hot (tends to sometimes happen in the cheaper and smaller fans due to their higher rpm speeds), then maybe look at getting better quality or larger ones instead.

Depending on the quality of the fan, they will all eventually wear out, so its just a matter of a few months or a few years.

There is no aquarium light. I am using canister filter and it is about 2 feet away from the tank. The tank is not near any window. My neighbour smokes so the door and windows at my living room (where the tank is) are closed at all times. Hence, lack of air circulation may have contributed to the heat. My tank is tall (45cm) and the water surface is about 20 cm from the fan. I will increase the water level so that the fan is not that far away and it should help reduce the temperature further.

So far, the fan seems to be able to keep the water temperature at 28°C most of the time. Will leave it on for 24 hours.

Have been tempting to buy the GEX fan below but the price is quite high. For those who are using it, is it worth the price? Thanks.

frankly speaking it is the same no matter which fan you use,recent hot weather in sg will probably only cool the tank to 26-28c only.

Why no light??
Daylights strong??
If shrimp under light will show more prominent colors i think.

Although the tank is not near windows but it is still quite bright. At night, I have many ceiling lights on. I have only Xmas moss and marimo in my tank and all are very green, so I guess there is no need for extra lighting.
