I've this problem that using the manual regulator the bubble count drops with time. Sometimes when I get home there are no bubbles at all. Afraid to inject too much too.. it might kill all my fish right?

    Re: New Plants yellowing

    The biggest offender is CO2

You have to spend money to buy a good CO2 system. until then..we will be going in circle

I already foresee your problem. And I also know what's your next issue : )

    Algae crew no have?
T8 lighting you may want to upgrade.

Ah, one of the best things is learning the root about the problems and addressing them.

    Re: New Plants yellowing

Nope no algea crew. I change all my T8 tubes recently had the impression algea means too much nutrients and too much light. I just got a timer to cut my lighting hours to 8 a day to combat the problem. Increasing my co2 injection since it slows down as time goes on.. Hope it will work! Any recommendations on the lighting time?

    Re: New Plants yellowing

I got 10 Yamato shrimp from my tank today.. I asked the seaview (LFS) guy will my tiger barbs eat them he says no.. I introducted them and they seemed Ok. obseverd for an hour and no barb was interested in them. 3 hrs later I can Only see one! Have they become an expensive dinner for my barbs?

Anyone know if barbs eat shrimp? Mixed info on the net about this.. Maybe a made a mistake introducing the shrimp as my algae crew hope they are just hiding amoung the plants and I can't see them.

    They jump out or hide?
Popular light period is 8 hours, but some people have longer shorter.

    Re: New Plants yellowing

Haha yes I agree seaview = shopping.

I have set my timer to 10hours. When I first introduced the Yamatos they jumped around but no barb was interested then they eventually settled down on to the plants and substrate to graze. I spotted 1 last night after looking for them for like an hour hahaha!! The algea seems to be reducing i think cos of the change in light timing. However my plants are getting worse more and more are melting and floating to the surface.

I changed my one way valve of my CO2 injection. I realise that it is the cause of my inconsistent release as the pressure build up in the valve is significant. Noted it as when I closed the main valve of my CO2 tank with my manual regulator's valve still open the CO2 bubbles continue for a short while and stop. The pressure indicator still show fairly high pressure. To confirm my theory I used my mouth to blow through the one way valve and indeed it require alot of effort. Hope all these changes improve my situation! Change all my lighting tubes as well, 7200K ultra bright 18W tubes.

Focus on growing plants not controlling algae. That is what Tom said and it is proven.

Why you use mouth to blow? Even ceramic diffuser will need alot to blow. You cute

I use both electric solenoid and manual before. Electric better, use timer control the on/off of the valve.
Works best if your co2 require high bps to work. (not feasible to run all day right? )

    Re: New Plants yellowing

I think my planted tank is failing haha everything seems to be slowly rotting away.

I think this weekend I'd go get more plants to replace those that have died. Any recommendations on plants to get for my current setup? Problem is I can go to the LFS with the scentific names but the uncle always ask me to go pick myself! lol! I'm not good it identifying and sometimes I don't know if the common name I got is correct.

    Re: New Plants yellowing

    Hi guys!

Thanks for all the help I truly appreciate it! Well things have not improved much. I've changed to a bigger tank, got better CO2 system items so my bubble count is pretty consistant these days. Gave away some fish but my plants still don't seem to be doing so well. The plants are still browning. Some have totally melted and died off. Any further inputs are welcome! Plants are really not as easy as it seems :P

    Re: New Plants yellowing

Bro, i think start off with some easier plants first bah. No point going out to buy all sorts of plants without knowing what they are or their care routine. Do some research online, start a list of easy growth plants. Once you have some experience there, then move on to the higher difficulty plants with CO2 injection and so forth. I started from low-light plants on driftwoods, slowly worked my way up to semi-planted with CO2 injection and regular ferrts routine. The number of plants I've lost along the way number less than 1 hand. Best is always to do your research before buying.

I do agree with you bro Jon-San. Been trying to get only low requirement plants. Trouble is I may misidentifying them and both time i purchased my plants i did ask the shop owners and they tell me my plant are easy to grow.

For example the java fern should be easy but it's leaves seem to be getting brittle and have cracks. I fertilize once in 2 weeks. Is that too infrequent? I do 10-20% water change twice a week.

Shop owners tend to mislead you into buying plants for their own profit. if you are not that confident with stem plants, maybe you can try those that need not required to be planted into the soil etc. Some of these can be Java fern varieties, Moss. The java ferns are usually like that, they need time to adjust to the tank's environment. I usually cut away the old leaves and let it grow. Its practically a bulletproof plant

1 should suffice IMO. unless you want to frequently top up your tank water.

Alright got my fan!!! Hahaha Dymax 12 watts fan.. I put it together with my light timer as I think the main reason my water temperature goes high is because of the light. Lights on/fan on. I got 2 fans just in case as I was told one fan can only achieve about 1 degree of cooling
