Hi Bros... Would like to find out what are some brands of cr that you all use for your shrimp tanks... As I had bought 2 different brands of cr... But after some test... Realise that both of them also raise ph... So afraid to add into tank... Also don't want the hassle of buying other brands and testing again... So would like to know what are some of the brands that do not raise ph.... Thanks in advance.

i'm using mr aqua CR, so far so good, use for near 5 years already.

what brand of cr did you bought? i used before those cheap and unknown CR, those increase the ph.
do you have activated carbon in your filter? activated carbon do increase ph a little.
if you got budget, you can try biohome+ or biohome. if not some famous brand like mr aqua, anz, powerhouse, all not bad.

I'm not really sure of the brand...They cost around 10/kg.. Only remember one is grayish in color...And that actually raise the ph to 8!

If you have A high budget for cr I recommend you power house it will decrease tank water ph to low 6s
It is only available at green chapter though.

Re: Recommended CR for crs tank

Yes...I went to gc and get the power house soft type cr...But i don't know why...My tank ph is hovering around 6.9.. Soil is gex soil...Used for 2 months...Gh is 6.. Kh don't know...Temp at 24-26... At first started tank with tap water...But now only do wc with distilled water...Tried using Mosura ph down to reduce ph to 6.4...But will go back to 6.9 next day...Only using normal sponge and power house cr in cannister...Nothing else...

Hmm what plants do you have. And gex unfortunately is well known for its low buffering duration of tank water.

Sounds like there are stuffs in your tank that cause your pH to go up. Do you have rocks or stones in your tank, what kind are they? If you were only using distilled water to do wc all the time, your gH should not be above 5.

Yes, you are very right on this. When I first started my tank with tap water, I did water change with aged tap water every week and top up only with distilled water for water loss due to evaporation everyday. My gH is constant at 4.

Hmm.. Using chiller....I only have Mosura mineral rocks in tank...I do dose mineral plus from Mosura to reach a Tds reading of 170... Did I do anything wrong? It's kind of frustrating to see the ph bouncing back and back!

Re: Recommended CR for crs tank

Your mosura mineral dose method is wrong you will increase the gh. As the instruction says it will alter gh
Besides you already got the mineral rocks so you should even dose lesser mineral plus not dose till 170 tds that is quite dangerous. If your tds drop it is okay.

So what's the Tds range I should be looking at? Should I stop dosing mineral in that case?
